Planet Terror
Aroview: Robert Rodriguez's half - and quite possibly, the better half - of the "Grindhouse" double bill (with Quentin Tarantino's DEATH PROOF), this zombified ode to bloodlusting schlock hilariously revels in gore and cheese of all kinds - and features a stripper with a machine-gun leg (McGowan)!
Shot in grimy, saturated colour and with an analogue synthesizer soundtrack, this joyously apes the look and feel of video nasties of the late 70's/early 80's, replete with crackles, scratches, frame-jumps, and even a 'missing reel'! Cramming in at least a decade of video-geek references ensures there's never a dull moment, and it nicely off-sets its faux-sleaze by always keeping its audience in on the blood-thirsty joke.
