Genres: Family / Fantasy
Aroview: A splendid and meticulous vision of C.S. Lewis' classic children's fantasy novel in which a group of four young siblings - ensconced in an English country house - discover a magical wardrobe which is a portal into a fairytale world under the grip of a malevolent witch (Swinton).
Although a certain amount of disbelief stalls their combined entry ito 'Narnia' the children soon find themselves the key players in a cosmological battle on the side of a dignified lion, Aslan (rendered in CGI and voiced by Neeson). Directed with restraint and taste by NZ-er Adamson, this manages to capture the original sense of whimsical wonder of the novel with the fauns, beavers and other creatures all dottily intact. While perhaps over-literal at times, Lewis' neo-Christian subtext is knowingly rendered and the whole is suitably polished.

3 stars (Good Enough) A quality fantasy for the family. Tilda Swinton was created for this kind of role and the kids led by Georgie Henley are well cast. The competent special effects are seamlessly woven into the storytelling. ~Tubbs
