Assassin, The

Aroview: More understated than later Shaw Brothers efforts, this costume actioner stars 'Jimmy' Wang Yu as a patriotic swordsman of ancient Han-era China, who is betrayed by rivals and seeks vengeance on a corrupt hierachy. Despite the lack of serious blood-letting there are many pleasures to be had from the nicely-rounded characters, period details and excellent photography.
