Tenko (TV Series)

Aroview: Memorable British drama in which a group of English women, shipwrecked while fleeing the invasion of Singapore in 1941, are captured by the Japanese military and detained in a prison camp.

An unsensational approach adds considerably to the languid, but gripping atmosphere as the women contend with the unrelentingly contemptuous attitude of their captors. Like other series of its vintage ('Secret Army' and 'Colditz'), this manages to turn compelling soap opera out of a potentially grim subject. Scripted by Lavinia Warner.
