Me And My Sister
Aroview: A deceptively simple French comedy, which has a bubbly and gauche rural-dwelling woman (Frot) visiting her arrogant and successful sister (Huppert) in Paris for three days, while her unpublished manuscript is assessed, and throwing into relief the drawbacks of Huppert's urban existence, philandering husband and dead-end career.
Although seemingly broad and souffle-light in its intentions, this evolves into an admirable critique of elitist cosmopolitan values, with tempers becoming increasingly frayed as Huppert reacts with shrillness to Frot's constant 'faux pa's among her social set. Tightly scripted by the director herself, and realised with taste and insight; Huppert in particular gives an agreeably restrained, but complex performance.
