Producers, The
Aroview: Lively remake of Mel Brooks' classic blackly comedy in which two Jewish Broadway producers (Broderick and Lane) develop a musical which they are sure will be a complete flop, but will net them a considerable financial killing in a shady investment scam.
Devising the calculated miscalculation of a musical about the Nazi Party ('Springtime for Hitler') in collaboration with a neo-Nazi (Ferrell), they are flabbergasted when audiences flock to the show, taking it to be a camp comedy. Dir. Stroman does a more than adequate job transferring her own successful Broadway adaptation of the Brooks film, back to film, orchestrating the mixture of slapstick, parody and farce with theatrical relish.
