Jack Kerouac - King of the Beats
Aroview: Solid documentary about the renowned, but troubled beatnik writer Jack Kerouac, whose novel 'On the Road' became a true classic of American literature of the 1960s.
This film begins with archival interviews (with the likes of Allen Ginsberg, Lawrence Ferlinghetti and William Burroughs), then moves into a loosely-constructed travelogue which follows the narrative journeys of 'On the Road', with actors portraying the various characters. Certainly an interesting complement to the 1987 documentary WHAT EVER HAPPENED TO KEROUAC?, and well worth a spin for fans, although the definitive movie treatment of the writer still awaits. Music by Duke Ellington, Charles Mingus and Thelonius Monk.
