Merchant of Venice, The

Aroview: Sturdy BBC adaptation of the Bard's famous 'problem play', with Warren Mitchell putting in an unparalleled performance as the Jewish usurer Shylock, who bargains for gold, souls and flesh in courts and alleys of Venice. The theatrical presentation is thoroughly conservative, but students of the Bard will be hard-pressed to find a better production.
