Tristan and Isolde
Aroview: Accessible and handsome rendering of the legendary Celtic love affair between a noble British knight (Franco) and an Irish princess (Myles), which threatens the political stability of the Isles in the centuries before the Norman Invasion.
Produced by Tony and Ridley Scott, this has a convincing visual density somewhat at odds with the occasionally muddled plotting, while understated performances skirt the potential hamminess of the material, Sophia Myles giving an especially fetching turn. Unspectacular, but worthy enough for fans of period romance.
