Border, The

Aroview: Rather underrated drama set along the Texas-Mexico borderlands, where a soiled but still-idealistic cop (Nicholson) becomes embroiled with a Mexican woman's repeated attempts to smuggle herself into the 'promised land' of America.

Replete with memorably complex and amoral characters, this carries a heavy charge of sincerity and despair, accompanied by one of the greatest of Ry Cooder's many soundtracks.
