Christmas in July

USA 1940, 64 minutes
Dir. Preston Sturges
Rating: [PG]
Genres: Classics, Comedy

Aroview: Dir. Sturges second film is a short, sweet and sharp satire on 'success', in which a gullible office clerk (Powell) is fooled by his colleagues into believing he's won a $25000 prize.

Proceeding to act with newfound confidence, he scores a new girlfriend, gets promoted and lavishes his supposed wealth - only to have it all chaotically come crashing down when the truth is revealed. While not of the classic status of SULLIVAN'S TRAVELS or THE PALM BEACH STORY, this has enough quirky detail and slapstick genius to commend it to fans.
