An Unfinished Life
Aroview: Surprisingly robust and appealing drama set in bleak outland Wyoming, with Redford playing an embittered rancher, whose estranged daughter-in-law (Lopez), comes to stay in an attempt to evade a violent relationship and repair family bonds.
Turns out Redford stills holds a grudge against Lopez over the death of his son, while also nursing a few demons of his own, although the discovery that he has a granddaughter provides some heartening consolation. If the set-up seems to threaten all manner of redemptive sentiment from the start , dir. Hallstrom manages to inculcate a lightness to the performances and the subplot about a dangerous grizzly bear pleasurably delays the inevitable.
