No End
Aroview: Bleak but powerful drama about life under martial law in early-1980s Poland, centred around the consequences that follow the death of an idealist lawyer, for both his distraught wife (Szapolowska) and a young labour activist who is forced into considering political compromises, while the ghost of the dead man also hovers in the background of several scenes, communicating his own sense of disappointment and resignation.
Probably most renowned for Szapolowska's heartfelt role as a woman realising too late how much her husband meant to her, this may prove tough viewing, although rewarding for those conversant with the overall pattern of the dir.'s oeuvre.
