Two for the Money
Aroview: Set in the world of gridiron betting, this steamy male melodrama has an injured quarterback (McConaughey) tempted into the field of 'sports advisories' (ie. phone tips) by a charismatic and wealthy New Yorker (Al Pacino) with plenty of hidden agendas up his sleeve.
Although successful at first, their mentor-protege partnership eventually disintegrates into a welter of lost bets, empty champagne bottles and recriminations. Powered chiefly by Pacino's usual screen antics - and here he is even more entertainingly verbose than ever - this has some trouble finding focus amid numerous competing subplots. Even so, a worthy stab at an unusual subject.

3 stars (Good Enough) Fun and snappy dialogue, with edgy performances by Pacino and McConaughey. Pacino is brilliant as the insidious and hustling employer always playing mind-games, and you will want to watch to see where the plot takes you. ~Tom H
2 stars (Good Try) Unable to empathise with the money obsessed characters - another foul mouthed yelling performance from Pacino - I think Spacey would have handled it better. ~Tubbs
