Aroview: Moody neo-noir stars Lou Diamond Phillips as a mildly autistic ex-con tending the night desk at the 'El Cortez' hotel in Reno, Nevada, who becomes embroiled in a web of crime and deceit - involving drugs and missing gold-mine - by those who think he's an easy mark.

However, there is a hidden intelligence ticking away beneath Phillips' buttoned-down exterior, which complicates the machinations of a violent cop, a drug-dealer (Plummer) and a femme fatale. Blending noir-esque motifs with a contemporary setting, this sometimes falters in tone, but transmutes its ingredients into something rather distinctive.
