Oyster Farmer
Aroview: Richly steeped in atmospheric Aussie locales and boondock lingo, this appealing drama follows a footloose young man (O'Lachlan) from Sydney to care for his ailing sister in a small riverside oyster-farming community.
Interracting with various hardcase types - including struggling farmers and a reclusive Vietnam vet (Thompson) - the plot takes an effective twist into suspense when O'Lachlan decides to rob a fish market and post the money to himself. Unfortunately the package accidentally ends up in the river and he must work out who is the lucky finder. A more predictable romantic subplot between the hero and a local lass is nonetheless infused with convincing verbal sparring and genuine chemistry. Feature debut from kiwi dir. Reeves is well worth prying open!
