Separate Lies
Aroview: Tense tragedy of manners stars Tom Wilkinson as a complacent lawyer whose young wife (Watson) confesses to being tangled-up in a fatal hit-and-run incident near their London home which involves her lover, a rather insufferable playboy (Everett).
In an effort to right his upending marriage, Wilkinson contrives to 'make things right' but enters a moral quagmire of good intentions and criminal misdeeds in the process. Solidly-carpentered narrative benefits from dir. Fellowes experience with the restrained mores of the English (he scripted GOSFORD PARK) and his dark-hued evocation of upmarket London is in itself a brooding pleasure.
