USA 1949, 107 minutes
Dir. Michael Curtiz
Rating: [PG]

Aroview: Sharp biopic based on legendary jazz trumpeteer Bix Beiderbecke (played here by Kirk Douglas), who rose from obscurity to possess one of the most distinctive instrumental voices of the 1930s.

Adapted from the book by Dorothy Baker, this treatment is essentially high-energy melodrama, with the horn-man spinning off into self-destruction and the arms of Bacall and Day. Hoagy Carmichael sits in on piano.
