USA 2006, 92 minutes
Dir. Jared Hess
Rating: [PG]
Genres: Comedy, Family
Feat. Jack Black
Aroview: Although quirky this is an altogether 'straighter' followup to NAPOLEON DYNAMITE for dir. Jared Hess, steering Jack Black through the cock-eyed tale of a Mexican monastery chef - his specialty is porridge topped with broken corn chips - who becomes entranced with the idea of becoming a famous masked wrestler: 'Nacho'.
Joining forces with an incredibly skinny and equally incompetent partner, Black ends up being beaten by all and sundry (including a team of midgets). Deadpanning its way through the quaint mock-heroics of the wrestling genre, this manages to dole out some crazed slapstick without ever losing its balance.

4 stars (Very Good) A monastery cook, Ignacio, takes his day job of feeding the orphan children most seriously but, by night, he dons stretchy pants and becomes Nacho Libre - hoping to win the affections of a new nun. An unlikely hero, you have to love him. ~GenXGirl
1 star (Turkey) I love lucha libre and Napoleon Dynamite, and I was fully expecting to enjoy this film. It's beautiful, with plenty of rich saturated colour. That's maybe the only kind thing I can say; I don't think I so much as cracked a smile while watching this. ~Pop&Coffee
2 stars (Good Try) It probably tries too hard to be funny. ~Tubbs
