Aroview: Rockin' and colourful rites-of-passage drama evolves out an adolescent boy's (Grondin) experiences as part of an unusual family during the decadent era of 1970s Canada, in the one of the more exhilarating and accesible riffs on the 'growing up gay' tale.
Set against an expertly assembled mosaic of 1970s pop music (Charles Aznavour, Patsy Cline, Pink Floyd and David Bowie), Grondin's navigation through relationships with doting mother (Proulx), macho father (Cote) and sundry siblings skips the angst and delivers a euphoric teenage journey told in a series of 'magic realist' strokes and fringed with a certain psychological edginess.

5 stars (Exceptional) This movie captures growing up as a gay teenager in the 1970s in a dysfunctional family. Colourful, funny, raw, entertaining, and a kick-arse, soundtrack ~rat1512
3 stars (Good Enough) Although the screenplay weakens slightly in its latter stages that is probably because what went before was quite strong. The soundtrack is a big plus. ~Tubbs
