Aroview: Terrific subterranean survival horror from the dir. of DOG SOLDIERS, with a group of thrill-seeking ladies venturing into an uncharted cave network, eventually succumbing to claustrophobia, the elements, each other, and something else that lies beneath…
Bucking the trend in torture and spirit-based shockers, dir. Marshall never fails to skimp on the outrageous blood ‘n’ guts of his previous low-budget success, but tempers it with a palpable sense of phobia: tight spaces, pitch black surroundings, and a dread of the unknown. In honoring the wilderness anxiety of DELIVERANCE and introducing the creature terror of ALIEN as a further spanner in the works, the resulting picture is a high-tension blend of irrational human fear and grisly monster effects - and going by the procession of SAW and GRUDGE-like sequels, a unique and resourceful breath of fresh air.

5 stars (Exceptional) The Descent reminds us that sometimes the less we see, the more effective the scares will be. With some major jump-scares, and a psychologically-terrifying atmosphere, this claustrophobic horror will have you gripping your seat and praying for daylight. ~Tom H
3 stars (Good Enough) To its credit, the screenplay puts a lot of effort into first creating suspense rather than taking the lazy way out and jumping straight to the horror situation. ~Tubbs
