Illusionist, The
Aroview: Edward Norton plays an enigmatic magician who courts a Viennese Dutchness (Biel) with the art of illusion in this lush and mystical period romance.
Rufus Sewell as the unkindly Prince of Austria adds spark to an otherwise straight-forward narrative of lust, betrayal and revenge, and though it weaves magical intrigue into these conventions, this misses the internal logic and sophistication of the similar (and contemporaneous) film, THE PRESTIGE.

3 stars (Good Enough) Predominantly straightforward tale, bar a few clever tricks, this is another for magic fans, although not quite as good or intense as 'The Prestige'. ~Tom H
2 stars (Good Try) Excellent production values but not a great deal comes out at the other end. A dead performance from Norton. ~Tubbs
