City of Violence, The
Aroview: A dazzling, action-fantastic revenger by way of Korea, this draws its considerable bloodletting from the aftermath of a funeral, where two childhood friends seek vengeance for their murdered comrade.
A little formulaic but boasting two particularly killer martial arts scenes, and an epic finale, dir. Ryoo Seung-wan brings his noted boxing prowess into this brutal tale. As you’d expect, sleazy villains, short tempers and wacky melodramatic montages enhance the adrenaline kick of the proceedings.

3 stars (Good Enough) Entertaining actioner with some cool fight scenes, ‘A City of Violence’ cuts frantically between gritty and cartoonish, although comes off just a little too kitsch at times. ~Tom H
