La Vie en Rose
Aroview: Marion Cotillard excels (and deservingly won a Best Actress Oscar) in this stunning new biopic of the life and times of French singer Edith Piaf.
Though Piaf's songs are showcased rather erratically, the film is propelled by its lead performance, Cotillard's passionate embodiment of 'The Little Sparrow' - seen through childhood hardships, early singing success, and a troubled but iconic career - consumes our gaze, qualified by exquisite production design and authentic period recreation.

3 stars (Good Enough) Brilliantly acted throughout, and Edith Piaf certainly is an intriguing character worthy of a story, but the way this story is told is often a little too erratic for its own good, feeling like it’s trying to be different and ‘artsy’ without needing to. ~Tom H
4 stars (Very Good) Marion Cotillard gives such an amazing performance in this very Gallic, larger-than-life drama it should not be left out of anyone's collection. Nasty society portrayed a bit loud and over-the-top but then it was the bad-old-days. ~rakau
