Aroview: Freewheeling biographical account of singer/composer/actor Serge Gainsbourg, an enduring iconic figure of French popular culture.
Serves the perfunctory purpose of charting the touchstone events of Gainsbourg's life, particularly his 60's and 70's romances with Brigitte Bardot and British naif Jane Birkin (mother of actor Charlotte Gainsbourg). While it provides only cursory insight into his musical obsession and career, it compensates as a spirited piece of pop-art nostalgia with elegant stylistic touches that highlight the ruggedly charismatic star's abiding insecurity about his looks. Speaking of which, Eric Elmosnino is almost as cool as the real thing.

4 stars (Very Good) - I wish I was cool as Serge ~Leighton
3 stars (Good Enough) At first: damn, another biopic. Then: pretty cool. Then: damn, another biopic. Fairly unenlightening, really. Just listen to 'Melody Nelson' and make the rest up yourself... ~HiFi
3 stars (Good Enough) The dramatisation has some clever stylised touches that add even more interest to this bio of the influential but hard to categorise musician. ~Tubbs
