Jane Austen Book Club, The
Aroview: A refreshing 'click flick' in which six Californians convene to discuss the literary works of Jane Austen and discover their own lives are starting to parallel her writings.
Poised across a series of meetings in which the book club canvas six of Jane's most famous novels, this strikes an agreeable balance between the lively engagement of Austen's themes and motifs, and servicing the needs of its female target audience (romance, girlpower, warm fuzzies). Based on the best-selling novel by Karen Joy Fowler.

4 stars (Very Good) Very well put together, with a superlative cast of old hands (Baker, Brenneman, Bello, Smits) and new talents (Blunt's nuanced performance is a delight), this is a superior example of chick flickery. Highly enjoyable. ~HiFi
2 stars (Good Try) A good idea but it predictably got sidetracked by romance. A good female ensemble cast should have been left alone with their literary pursuits. ~Tubbs
