Tracey Fragments, The

Canada 2007, 74 minutes
Dir. Bruce McDonald
Genres: Drama / Independent

Topics: Rites-of-passage.

Aroview: Experimentally inclined coming-of-age drama follows a troubled teen (JUNO’s Elliot Page) searching for her little brother after he goes missing from the family home.

Stylistically reaching for a mosaic of adolescent dislocation, the Mondrian-like multi-screen technique serves to distract from rather than enhance the meagre storyline. Despite (once again) having to work with an over-reaching, at times implausible script, Page gives a credible performance as the self-piteous teen, while Broken Social Scene’s cathartic score restores some pathos.
