Mala Noche
Aroview: Low-budget granular drama and the first film made by the eclectic Mr Van Sant near the start of his influential career. It tells the tale of a Portland man swapping money and sex with an illegal immigrant boy who finds himself romantically drawn to the immigrant's friend at the same time.
An evocative and lingering example of Van Sant cinema-raw largely amateur acting, gritty gay-centric storyline and eloquent cinematography that will haunt viewers long after they have stopped watching. Van Sant followers will be gagging for a taste of the atypical movie magician's foray into filmmaking and this fine example of guerrilla movie making will not fail to please.
