He Was a Quiet Man
Aroview: With his best role in donkey's years, Christian Slater stars in this bleakly satirical drama as a frustrated loner who decides to take out his anger at the world by plotting to gun down his colleagues, until a co-worker beats him to it.
See-sawing between fantasy and reality, this is weakened a bit by tonal waywardness and a dependence on ambiguity, though the indecision over whether to laugh or grimace occasionally works in the film's favour, while the development of an unlikely romance involving a paraplegic co-worker sets up some rather thoughtful observations on human isolation and need. Likely to register with misanthropic office drones the world over.
