Mummy, The - Tomb of the Dragon Emperor
Aroview: Veteran adventurer Rick O’Conner (Fraser) returns with family in tow to battle Jet Li’s ‘Dragon Emperor’ in this bloated third installment of Universal’s Mummy franchise.
One can appreciate its well-crafted action sequences while forgiving some truly lousy CGI – SFX have never been the series' strong point – but a shambolic, disjointed script proves more problematic, and there is a greater loss in Fraser’s paint-by-numbers performance, his ironic charm being the saving grace of the first two films. Worse still are the puns and misfired catchphrases our characters spout at inopportune moments in an effort to inject some charm into the thing, where ultimately everyone looks like they’re walking through a green screen with their eyes on a paycheck. Suitable for truly undemanding kids and people who like Yetis.
