Starting Out in the Evening
Aroview: An aging, all-but-forgotten author (Langella) finds himself the object of an eager grad student’s attention when she decides to make him the subject of her master’s thesis.
Poignant, mature and intimately observed, but also self-consciously verbose, occasionally prosaic and littered with literary name-checking, this slow-burning treatise on the tensions feeding and impeding creativity might not have the emotional pull it promises, but is considerably enriched by the talents of a fine cast, most notably Langella and the ever-impressive Taylor.
