Pineapple Express

Aroview: Surprisingly touching stoner comedy with Seth Rogen and James Franco playing two dudes on the run from corrupt drug lords after witnessing a murder.

This is one of the gems from the Judd Apatow factory, its stoner haze never obscures the tender friendship at its heart; Rogan and Franco quite literally spark off one another as the bumbling, amicable duo. The action sequences are also noteworthy and surprisingly polished, and violent to comical (and not-so-comical) excess. Despite an ineviatable decline into pure stupidity in the third act, the film will keep you laughing with its odd mix of sharp pop-culture references and dunderheaded drug jokes.
