Choke
Aroview: Mixed black comedy of support groups, self-loathing and anonymous sex, from the pen of FIGHT CLUB novelist Chuck Palahniuk.
Fighting the urge to relapse, Sam Rockwell features as the neurotic, sex addicted protagonist with a history of faking asphyxiation in crowded restaurants – a desperation for human affection further complicated by the deteriorating mental health of his mother (Huston). Scattered with familiar Palahniuk tirades and quirks, this screen adaptation suffers mostly from the novice direction of character actor Gregg, in which the scandalous humour often falls flat amidst the tawdry and unappealing look of the film.

1 star (Turkey) A disappointing rendition of a darkly humorous Pahlanuik affair—although perhaps a film portrayal of the precocious protagonist was always doomed to fail. ~Tom H
2 stars (Good Try) Whilst the screenplay leaves much to be desired, Rockwell, Huston, and MacDonald are an attractive cast. ~Tubbs
