Aroview: Compassionate, beautifully-measured tale of a widowed college professor whose banal mid-life finds renewed joy (and heartbreak) after he encounters two Middle-Eastern immigrants living in his New York apartment.
Carrying a story that is full of surprises, the dir. of THE STATION AGENT integrates character study, political parable and infectious musical celebration into an engaging whole that relates a purposeful message about the divisive effects of policies mandated by the Bush administration. The ensemble cast never hit a false note, but it is Oscar-nominated Richard Jenkins who lives and breathes his role as the buttoned-up, white-bread everyman, and elevates this into the master class.

4 stars (Very Good) I really liked this film. What a wonderful set of inter-relationships and how inspiring to see a 'real person' emerge from his practised appropriateness. Great story, well played. ~Davidicus
5 stars (Exceptional) One of those rare gems that creeps up on you slowly and steals your heart. In lesser hands, the intercultural elements would have been heavy-handed and cliched; this one manages to be intelligent and poignant. ~ravioliwonton
5 stars (Exceptional) One of my favourite films of all time. Subtle yet powerful. Richard Jenkins's performance deserved an Oscar. ~Rhonwen

5 stars (Exceptional) ~Milana
4 stars (Very Good) The first half of the screenplay sets up the relationship between the characters whilst the second packs a political punch. At all times the characters are believable, the pacing is just right and the dramatics are justified. ~Tubbs
5 stars (Exceptional) A very fine film, brilliantly acted. Well shows the fear & circumstances of illegal immigrants in the USA - in this case Syrian. The inflexible bureaucrats are very realistic. Educated Americans have little clue to what their govt. does to people. ~Anon
