Square, The
Aroview: Hard-and-fast noir with an Aussie twang, hatched from a plot to make off with a mobster’s stash of cash, and the luckless turn of events that follow.
Ignited by greed, adultery and betrayal, dir. Edgerton’s film remains surprisingly grounded and heavy in tone, given his former stuntman qualifications. Indeed, while its tried-and-true noir clichés work like a charm, this is a far darker and dread-inducing proposition than its crime-caper premise suggests. For fans of NOISE, recommended.
