Ip Man
Aroview: Kung fu stalwart Donnie Yen assumes the legend of Ip Man, celebrated master of the rare and deadly form of martial arts, Wing Chun (later adopted by Bruce Lee).
Taking on the historical biopic with nationalistic gusto, this presents a rather embittered view of Japanese-occupied China while focusing on Ip’s dignified uprising and martial arts expertise. Prone to hockiness and bouts of jingoistic fervour, the film’s numerous fight sequences are its best and bloodiest asset.

4 stars (Very Good) Ip Man should be seen by every martial arts fan, if not only for its incredible martial arts sequences (Donnie Yen is quite superb), but also for an origins story of the distinctive fighting style Wing Chun. ~Tom H
