The masterful Shohei Imamura’s last and most delicious film, this combines romantic whimsy and a wonderful, affirmative embrace of human sexuality through the director’s requisite loner protagonist. Lacks the prickly satire and witticisms of Imamura’s best work, yet that’s beside the point when a geyser-strength orgasm is the film’s main attraction!
