Aroview: After doing eight years for killing his wife, an inhibited man (Yakusho Koji of SHALL WE DANCE) sets himself up at a quiet riverside barbershop, the perfect spot for community busy-bodying. He shuns the affections of a woman whom he rescued from suicide, and most other conventional interaction, but finds comfort in his pet eel. Tranquil, moribund, bizarre and downright zany scenes co-exist to ultimately enigmatic effect. Joint winner of the Palm D'Or at Cannes 1997 with A TASTE OF CHERRY.
