International, The
Aroview: Sleek cosmopolitan thriller finds Owen and Watts, as disheveled Interpol agent and bland district attorney respectively, exposing a sinister arms deal brokered by a major international bank.
Half-heartedly critiquing dishonest financial institutions and corporate powers complicit in third world conflict, this is a little too ideas-heavy to take off as an out-and-out action vehicle, with one standout shootout (a rather anarchic demolition of the Guggenheim’s spiraling interior) the only significant highlight. Elsewhere, the film’s clunky procedural elements and underwritten female protagonist tend to sour its silky location changes and architectural fetishising, of which it almost matches the globe-trotting tourism of the Bourne movies.
