Defiance
Aroview: Edward Zwick (GLORY) delivers big, earnest moments in this true story of four brothers who launch an all-Jewish resistance against the Nazis during WW2.
Fronted by the handsome (if incongruous) Daniel Craig and featuring an excellent turn by Liev Schreiber as a socialist rebel, the film’s rousing war movie formula is confidently mounted with all the Hollywood trimmings. As to be expected though, dir. Zwick’s overstated style dominates to the point of speciousness, flattening out the story’s ambiguous, untold history into a self-righteous and thoroughly cliched tale of good vs. evil.

3 stars (Good Enough) There is a great and noble story to be told somewhere within here, but the Hollywood 'style' gets in the way. ~Tom H
2 stars (Good Try) Far too long for the material - a half hour documentary would have sufficed. ~Tubbs
