Grocer's Son, The

Aroview: Gentle coming-of-age story following Antoine, a self-centered young man living in Paris, who is forced to return to his provincial hometown and take over the quaint family business when his father has a stroke.

Rather than painting a sentimental portrait of rural living, this is an affecting portrait of a young man trying to cope with unspoken disappointment and old family wounds, Antoine captured in a subtle, closely observed performance by Nicolas Cazalé. Rich in detail and quiet in execution, this is one to savour.
