Boy in the Striped Pyjamas, The
Aroview: Emotive wartime parable set in Nazi Germany where the young son of a concentration camp commander befriends a Jewish boy on the other side of the camp fence.
The basic premise has less to do with a plausible historical reality than being a literary conceit that illustrates Nazi inhumanity and hypocracy. As a result the narrative and characters develop to ultimately serve the film's climactic scene, which is undeniably powerful, and will redeem misgivings for most viewers. As a sobering history lesson, this will have its most powerful and valuable effect on younger audiences less familiar with Holocaust atrocities.
