King Of California
Aroview: Quirky comedy sees Michael Douglas play a recently released mental-patient who tries to rally his emancipated teenage daughter (Wood) into helping him dig up ancient Spanish treasure under their local grocery store.
One gets the sense that Michael Douglas has been given utterly free-rein to do whatever he wants, delivering a delightfully unhinged, charismatic performance, although all the scene-chewing tends to undermine the father/daughter relationship at the film's heart. Evan Rachel Wood does her admirable best to play along.
