Big Fish
Aroview: A fantasy of substance from dir. Tim Burton, set around a dying father (Finney) and his son (Crudup), who relives the father's tall stories, piecing together his version of the family history.
Acclaimed by many critics, this manages to juggle potentially mawkish material into an eye-popping series of flashbacks, clever anecdotes and legendary personal moments, many had at the end of a fishing rod. Set in a comicbook version of the American South (akin to O BROTHER WHERE ART THOU), a memorable cast of eccentric and grotesque types is slowly unreeled, all rendered hyper-real in Burton's hands, though the film satisfyingly hooks into some deeper psychological undercurrents by the finale.

4 stars (Very Good) Very good. The plot is one of the strong points, coupled with Ewan McGregor's great performance as the young Edward Bloom. Tends to become a tad too sentimentally towards the end. ~dr.strangelove
5 stars (Exceptional) A wonderful, enthralling fantasy. ~Wizzums
