X-Men Origins: Wolverine
Aroview: Hugh Jackman reprises his role as wolfy superhero Wolverine, charting his origin-story from innocent child through to fully-fledged, near-indestructible mutant in this prequel to the X-MEN films.
Although Jackman gives it his all in what is obviously a passion project (he also shares a producers credit) this is a somewhat overcooked affair which tries to string together too many fight scenes with paper-thin plot, ultimately blurring them into one chest-thumping montage. More problematic, for a character whose popularity has much to do with laddish charm, is a complete lack of humour; even the personable Jackman struggles with the leaden, angst-ridden dialogue. Satisfies as mindless entertainment, but falls short of the bar set by its predecessors.

3 stars (Good Enough) For the origins story of one of my favourite Marvel characters, I was expecting far more - Hugh is still here, but it's all just too predictable and unnecessary to care about. ~Tom H
