Tenderness

2008, 101 minutes
Dir. John Polson
Genres: Suspense/Crime

Aroview: Indie thriller sees Russell Crowe play a semi-retired detective who becomes obsessed with a teenage murderer recently freed from prison, who he believes has the potential to be a serial killer.

All the performances are excellent - particularly from newcomer Sophie Traub as the suicidal runaway who teams up with the ex-con - however the slow pace gradually frustrates, and the film ultimately lacks a satisfactory conclusion. As a character study, this succeeds, but misses its intended mark as a gripping thriller.
