Aroview: Superlative HBO series from the makers of THE WIRE following the U.S. Marine reconnaissance battalion in the first year of the Iraq invasion.
Based on Rolling Stone reporter Evan Wright's experiences as an embedded reporter during 2003, there is an authenticity to this that is absorbing and challenging in equal measure - reminiscent of THE WIRE, we piece together characters from our own observations. Wright's touch is most apparent in the terrific script, where many of the glib one-liners and pop-culture references are lifted directly from his book, tossed in rapid-fire by characters of depth and unnerving vulnerability.

4 stars (Very Good) Before this my knowledge of marines was based on Aliens and Jarhead and I believed anyone serving during the Iraq war swallowed the WMD rhetoric unquestioningly. Not so. Generation Kill kicks all those prejudices in the ass. It's riveting - Kahuninja ~Kahuninja
5 stars (Exceptional) Lucid, complex, disturbing, with no easy answers or glib morals. Now, if all TV was this good... ~HiFi
4 stars (Very Good) Forget the Hurt Locker, THIS is the only cinematic depiction of the Iraq War which you really need to see. Utterly sympathetic towards most of the soldiers, utterly unsympathetic towards the war. ~artsfiend
