Hell and Back Again
“The images are painterly and expressive, both exceptionally real in their photo-journalistic quality and physically vivid as cinema.”~Variety
Aroview: Photojournalist Danfung Dennis captures both the intensity of combat and the despair of life back home in this incredible insight into the realities of the war in Afghanistan.
Zeroing in on 25-year-old Marine Sgt. Nathan Harris, who was severely wounded on the eve of his return from his tour of duty, the film gets inside the soldier mentality on and off the battlefield, and makes some unsettling observations. Coming across as a "nice guy" and American everyman who struggles with rehabilitation and his own internal rage, it becomes apparent that America's military and domestic gun cultures are flip sides of the same coin.
