Tony Manero
Aroview: Unsettling drama set against the Pinochet regime in Chile in 1978, where a psychopathic disco fan steals and kills in an effort to become the ultimate impersonator of 'Tony Manero', John Travolta's character in SATURDAY NIGHT FEVER.
Though unsavoury in content and unvarnished in style, it's a bracingly tense portrait of a middle-aged man whose extreme (American) fixation comes at the expense of the dignity of all that surround him - echoing the characteristics of the ruling dictator. The Pacino-like actor Alfredo Castro holds a stone-faced magnetism throughout, and the film-makers do well to secure the rights to the music and film images of the iconic blockbuster itself.
