Bangkok Dangerous
Aroview: Continuing the dubious trend of Asian filmmakers helming American remakes of their own hit movies, this strictly by-the-numbers thriller finds Nicholas Cage torn between romance and contract killing in the bowels of Thailand’s sweaty capital city.
Surprisingly actionless, even Cage’s knack for chewing the scenery is sorely lacking in a film that, for all its redundancy, even omits the majority of creative flourishes that made the Pang Brothers’ debut film at least an exciting, energetic watch. Still, bad movie connoisseurs will find something to champion in this otherwise pedestrian effort.
